Petals for Armor: Single Review

Alright people! This is NOT A DRILL!

Hayley Williams of Paramore has officially released her first single as solo artist, Petals for Armor. The single is titled "Simmer" and we need to take a moment to appreciate this! This is such a different sound from what Paramore has done in the past, but nothing I can't see Hayley doing, which is exactly the point. The song has so many beautiful layers of vocals, harmonies, and other sounds that I can't put my finger on where they came from but nevertheless, I'm in love. I am in such awe that the only thing I can think to say is the production, done by Paramore's guitarist, Taylor York, is incredible and I can not wait to see what else he has in store for his future music endeavors. Now lyrically, Williams has created something that seems to explore her deeper feelings about emotions that you are normally told to calm or hide, and how to express those is to "give in" or for lack of better words, "simmer down."

As a huge Paramore fan, I was extremely excited when hints for Hayley's solo project started dropping and even more when it was officially announced. I can't wait to see what else she explores and how her story is going to unfold. Be sure to check out Petals for Armor's first single "Simmer," and look out for the album which drops on May 8th!

What Is Punk?

If you look at the Merriam-Webster definition of punk, you would find a motley of things. At Punk Junk Magazine, we believe in punk as a culture: a badass social interpretation built by those who are bold, electric, and unapologetically themselves. In our eyes, a punk is someone who fights for what they want regardless of obstacles or outside forces; they put their hearts and souls into their passions and make their dreams a reality. Being punk means being yourself, despite social norms and peer-pressure; punk is having a sense of awareness, respect for yourself and others, and an open mind. So to that, we say... why be a dreamer when you can be a PUNK!
