Cheers for 10 Years (Part 4)

What time is it? Anniversary time!

It is, once again, that time to give appreciation to some albums that have made an impact on our lives as we celebrate their tenth birthdays. My picks this time around are central pieces in my rotation that helped me work through emotions in life and that are still common rotations in my playlists now! I find these albums to be timeless; even as our world is constantly changing and evolving, these albums continue to make an impact.

Brand New Eyes by Paramore

Release Date: September 29, 2009

My favorite songs: Misguided Ghost, Ignorance, Feeling Sorry, Turn it Off, Looking Up and Playing God

Selfishly, this band is one of my all time favorites just from their pure growth as artists and the depths they can reach from their emotionally charged lyrics. As they have grown, they have cultivated something for ANY person.  I first heard them in 2006 through their first album All We Know is Falling and then heard their singles from Riot in 2007 and 2008, but when Brand New Eyes came out I became linked to their music for life. This album is the perfect mix of their technical growth mixed with the emotions keep me connected to the songs.

This album has transcended through time as it continues to be a favorite that I always include in my playlists.

Life Starts Now by Three Days Grace

Release date: September 22, 2009

My favorite songs: Break, Lost in You, Bully, The Good Life, Last to Know, and Someone Who Cares,

I have always been that child that connected better to music that was emotionally charged- as we can tell. Three Days Grace was one of those bands that was just as angry as I thought I was. When I wanted music that helped me grasp my extreme feelings such as anger, jealousy, and sadness so deep I would become angry, this would be one of my go to albums to relate with and help, in a healthy way, to deal with and expel these feelings.

What Is Punk?

If you look at the Merriam-Webster definition of punk, you would find a motley of things. At Punk Junk Magazine, we believe in punk as a culture: a badass social interpretation built by those who are bold, electric, and unapologetically themselves. In our eyes, a punk is someone who fights for what they want regardless of obstacles or outside forces; they put their hearts and souls into their passions and make their dreams a reality. Being punk means being yourself, despite social norms and peer-pressure; punk is having a sense of awareness, respect for yourself and others, and an open mind. So to that, we say... why be a dreamer when you can be a PUNK!
