The 1975: Show Review

The 1975 are nearing the end of their North American leg of their 2019 tour. They stopped by Boston on Thursday to a sold out show at the Agganis Arena, marking the biggest headlining show the band has ever played in Boston. The show was a blast from start to finish with The 1975’s close friend No Rome opening to get the crowd ready. No Rome has a very similar sound to the English pop rock band that they fit the vibe perfectly. Shortly after The Japanese House, indie pop female led act took the stage. The Japanese House, while slightly more on the mellow side kept the crowd nicely engaged and ready for The 1975.

 

 

The 1975 haven’t properly toured the U.S. in a few years so the crowd so the crowd was a decent mix of both old and new fans ready to see what kind of show the boys would come up with for this come-back tour. The band definitely did not disappoint. The 1975 have been known to throw a bit of an immersive show where it’s not only about the music but the entire experience. From the lights, to the stage set up and treadmill running across the stage to the dancers and of course the music itself, there was never a dull moment on stage. The band had a rotating setlist throughout the tour, which is always a nice surprise as it’s impossible to know exactly what you’re going to get and every show is a little bit different. They of course played all the fan favorite from all three studio albums they’ve released over the years as well as a couple not so well known hits. Both older fans and newer fans were satisfied as no album was featured heavier than the others. Some fans have expressed worry that they, like so many artists nowadays, would play favorites to their latest release “A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships,” but while they did play a bunch from ABIIOR it didn’t overshadow the older songs.

 

Overall, the show was stunning and a lot of fun from beginning to end and I already can’t wait for their next tour. The band will be releasing another album later this year titled “Notes on Conditional Form” so let’s hope that with the new album, a new tour announcement will accompany it.

Being punk means being yourself, despite social norms and peer-pressure; punk is having a sense of awareness, respect for yourself and others, and an open mind.
