Halsey: Single Review

05.19.2019

Once again, pop artist Halsey has proven herself as a force to be reckoned with. With her last single “Without Me" debuting at No. 1 on Billboard, she had a lot to live up and did not disappoint. Right now in America, there is a lot to be angry about. Very specifically though, about losing the rights to our own bodies and this song could not have come at a better time. Her new single “Nightmare” expresses a lot of shit people get angry about and it does not sugarcoat it at all. The lyrics are mad and the video, even more so. The music video is filled with hundreds of beautiful, empowered individuals showing their rage. Not only that, but Halsey very clearly seems to be owning her sexuality and showing that it is nothing to be shamed for. The song is meant to empower listeners with lyrics like “I gotta recognize the weapon in my mind” and “I waited a while for a moment to say I don’t owe you a goddamn thing.” This will be an anthem not only for this time in America, but hopefully a lifetime of not taking shit from people and bearing your teeth when someone tells you to “smile more.” Nightmare is now available on all streaming platforms, as well as the badass music video on YouTube. Halsey is a true visionary and we are very excited to see where this “Nightmare” era takes us.

What Is Punk?

If you look at the Merriam-Webster definition of punk, you would find a motley of things. At Punk Junk Magazine, we believe in punk as a culture: a badass social interpretation built by those who are bold, electric, and unapologetically themselves. In our eyes, a punk is someone who fights for what they want regardless of obstacles or outside forces; they put their hearts and souls into their passions and make their dreams a reality. Being punk means being yourself, despite social norms and peer-pressure; punk is having a sense of awareness, respect for yourself and others, and an open mind. So to that, we say... why be a dreamer when you can be a PUNK!
