Calpurnia Rocks Paradise: Show Review

08.22.2018

On August 18th, 2018 Calpurnia played at the Paradise Rock Club in Boston, Massachusetts and we can’t say anything but WOW!

Calpurnia is an Indie-Rock group from Vancouver, Canada made up of Jack Anderson (bass), Malcolm Craig (drums), Ayla Tesler-Mabe (vocals and guitar)  and Finn Wolfhard (vocals and guitar). This teenage band rocked it!

Not only was the show sold out but, they already are drawing a devoted fan-base that had been queued up outside the venue for hours before the show! The show itself just kept killing it, with alt-rock stylings of The Honey Cult to keep the energy up of the crowd as the anxiously awaited for Calpurnia. The show was definitely nothing that I expected but I am so glad I got to experience it. Just seeing the interaction between the band and the crowd was amazing, especially for how young the band is- and I don’t mean by their age!

For fans of: The War on Drugs, The Replacements, Pavement

What Is Punk?

If you look at the Merriam-Webster definition of punk, you would find a motley of things. At Punk Junk Magazine, we believe in punk as a culture: a badass social interpretation built by those who are bold, electric, and unapologetically themselves. In our eyes, a punk is someone who fights for what they want regardless of obstacles or outside forces; they put their hearts and souls into their passions and make their dreams a reality. Being punk means being yourself, despite social norms and peer-pressure; punk is having a sense of awareness, respect for yourself and others, and an open mind. So to that, we say... why be a dreamer when you can be a PUNK!
